As part of the Matres Festival 2024 - Pandora Ceramists &CeramicAAlta -present the "OFFICINE CERAMIC AWARD II Edition" Competition.

Officine Ceramiche Award  (by Pandora Ceramiste&CeramicAAlta) is the competition of the Pandora Artiste Ceramiste Association that has been promoting international contemporary ceramics since 2018 with the presentation of design works using the ceramic product, while involving the world of contemporary art, design and decorative arts. The project is distinguished by its multidisciplinary nature, and its mission has been fulfilled over the years by playing a key role in the dissemination of ceramic culture in Italy and abroad.

In this edition The proposed theme is primitivism in contemporary ceramic design. Participants are invited to explore and reinterpret the essence and aesthetics of ancient ceramic techniques, primitive motifs, natural materials and cultural symbols through their work. This is a unique opportunity for ceramic designers to explore the theme of primitivism and the many resulting connections between contemporary ceramic design and the influences of ancient primitivist techniques and aesthetics.

TO WHOM IT IS ADDRESSED

The competition is open to all artists and designers using ceramics as an artistic language, regardless of age, emerging and established, whether individual or part of a collective, with no restrictions on gender or nationality.

RULES

The biennial competition supports and promotes artists working with ceramics in contemporary art and collectible design. Interesting prizes offered, in collaboration with important international partners. The work changes, the place of work changes: objects, equipment, tools. The competition of Officine Ceramiche Award wants to present, along with the results of long-term trends, also the solutions suggested by the most recent circumstances and the new balances imposed by planetary crises. The spaces and places of work have changed and The design competition connected to the MATRES 2024 event invites designers and artists to reflect on the new scenarios, with a focus on product sustainability and the use of green raw materials. 

Selected participants will have the opportunity to display their works in the exhibition at the gallery on the upper floor of the St. John's Monumental Complex. Prizes will be awarded to the most innovative and creative projects, with special recognition for originality and excellence in the interpretation of the theme.

CRITERIA FOR PARTICIPATION:

- The exhibition is open to professional ceramic designers, design students, artists and artisans working in the field of ceramics.

- Participants must submit original works that reflect the exhibition theme and demonstrate a creative and innovative interpretation of primitivism in ceramic design.

- Works may include vases, sculptures, dishes and serving accessories, furniture and decorative objects, jewelry and accessories.

- The use of any ceramic production technique is allowed, including handwork, modeling and 3D digital printing, lathe, glazing and decoration.

METHOD AND TERMS OF REGISTRATION

Applications must be submitted exclusively by filling out the form "OFFICINE CERAMIC AWARD II edition" sect. Matres Festival 2024 on the website www.pandoraceramiste.it Attaching the required documentation.

Each participant can submit 1 (one) work of free interpretation.

The work may have the measurements in accordance with the call for entries.

Works may be executed with any ceramic technique; works may also contain other materials (max of 1\3 of the work).

The proposed work must be accompanied by a detailed description along with pictures or drawings of the designs.

There is a registration fee for participation is €30 for applicants over 35 years old - €20 for applicants under 35 years old (or those who are 35 years old at the time of registration).

Participation is free for students of Art Institutes, students of the Faculty of Architecture and Design, Academies Of Fine Arts.

Payment of the registration fee must be made after the outcome of the selection that will take place by the

The receipt of payment should be recorded in the www.pandoraceramiste.it on the appropriate Integration Form EXHIBITION OF FINALISTS CONCORSO "OFFICINE CERAMIC AWARD II edition" (by 30/07/2024, otherwise the work will not be displayed)

Participants are required to declare that the submitted works are their own property. Participants must declare, under penalty of exclusion from the exhibition, whether the works entered in the competition have been submitted to other exhibitions or competitions. 

SHIPMENT OF WORKS

Works must be received by August 19, 2024. Following the selection, the selected authors will be contacted regarding shipment. Shipping of the finalist works is the responsibility and care of the artists. Adherence to minimum safety standards for handling ceramic artwork is required and that the works are packaged properly.

Officine Ceramiche Award (by Pandora Ceramiste& CeramicaAlta) ensures the utmost care in the organizational and exhibition stages of the Prize. However, the organization accepts no responsibility for any theft, fire or damage of any kind to the works, which may occur during the event.

RESPONSIBILITY

Participation in the competition implies unconditional acceptance of the announcement. A special jury of experts selects the works, and its judgment is final.

WHAT TO APPLY FOR.

Officine Ceramiche Award promotes crossing the boundary between contemporary art, collectible design and applied arts; therefore, invites artists and designers to nominate sculptures, handmade utilitarian objects, even if only partially produced in ceramics (other materials may be used in a non-dominant way) - created within the last two years. The work will be unique or limited edition work owned by the nominating artist and must not have won other awards.

Only one work may be submitted. For exhibition reasons, works smaller than 250x250x200 cm are preferred; any larger works will still be evaluated by the juries after notice at the application stage.

AWARDS

The works will be evaluated during the course of the event while prizes will be awarded at the closing ceremony on 08/25/2024.

Award special mention  (of the equivalent of €300 in ceramic material) awarded by the popular jury formed by the public who, during the days of the Matres Festival, will want to express their preference by ballot.

JURY

La Competition Jury will be composed of experts and personalities in the field of architecture and design, art and ceramic technique with proven professional experience, who will make a selection based on criteria that will be established collegially and that will focus on aesthetic qualities, correspondence to the announcement and originality of the object.  

The Jury will determine the winners who will be announced on Sunday morning. The judgment of the Jury will be unquestionable.

HOW THE FINALISTS AND WINNERS ARE SELECTED

The Committee of Experts will screen all applications and choose the works of the finalists, which will be exhibited in the gallery of St. John's Monumental Complex. Selected artist-authors will be contacted by July 20, 2024. Authors will not be allowed to communicate or publicize their participation on social networks, newsletters and on their own website, before the official announcement of Officine Ceramiche Award (by Pandora Ceramiste& CeramicaAlta).

EXHIBITION OF THE FINALISTS AND AWARDS CEREMONY

The works of the finalist authors will be exhibited from August 21 to 25, 2024 in the spaces of the Monumental Complex of San Giovanni in Cava de' Tirreni. The setting up of the exhibition will be exclusively curated by Officine Ceramiche Award (by Pandora Ceramiste& CeramicaAlta). The awards will be presented at the closing ceremony on 08/25/2024 in the presence of jurors, partners, press and the public.
